Dear Guest, Monday, 26 August, 2019

FROM THE FRONT OFFICE
Hello everyone,

Just a few words from me as I am on the countdown to my annual holiday this Friday!

REPAIRS & MAINTENANCE:
  • Clubhouse & Pro Shop Painting. This is well underway and the team are planning to be finished by the end of this week - weather permitting. Our thanks to Safari Painters who have been long time sponsors of the club.
  • BOP Asphalt have been in today and completed a new path from the mens 12th tee to the 13th tee. This is part of the overall makeover of the 12th hole. Our sincere thanks to the Firewood Gang for funding this path.
SCORECARDS:

Just a friendly reminder that it is your responsibility to correctly complete your scorecard. We would also recommend that you scan your own scorecard to verify that the score that you save is true and correct. Alot of people give their cards to another player to scan and believe me, I see plenty of players just hit the save button and say - 'oh that looks about right'
All scorecards must have 2 signatures - the player and the marker.  We have the technology to alert you if a scorecard is not signed - but it does tend to freeze the computer system. So help us out by making sure your cards are signed before you scan.

COURSE REPORT AUGUST 2019

GREENS: As we enter spring/renovation,  I am really happy with how the greens have got through this winter. We have managed to maintain a lot of our cover with thinning out only really occurring on our problematic greens.

Spring renovation is nice and simple. We will be verti-draining, verti cutting, sanding and seeding the greens. With sand and seed going out, we require 12/14 days before we start mowing again. Members should be aware that this is a standard practice and we ask for their patience and understanding while the greens are recovering.

TEES: We will be verti-draining the tees and applying fertilizer to help with recovery from winter wear.

FAIRWAYS: Currently in good condition.

BUNKERS: Currently in good condition. We have been getting in and moving/adding sand around monthly. As we get into late spring/early summer we will be busy with extra mowing, hand watering etc, so to keep the bunkers at a high standard, we will be looking to volunteers to assist with maintaining the bunkers.

ROUGH: I have just completed a weed spray and overall the rough is looking tidy. I have been asked by Chris McAlpine for the rough to be a bit longer for our Charles Tour event, so I have increased our mower from 64mm up to 76mm and we will reassess the condition of the rough 4 weeks out from the event.

CARRUS PREP: For us we have already started our preparations for the event. What we do over the next 4/5 weeks shapes the course up for how it will play. A lot of emphasis will be on the cover/health of our greens so we can get the required speeds and roll we are after during the tournament. The other main emphasis is getting all the “one percenters” done which really showcase’s the facility we have.

NB: The back third of tees will be saved for the event. Members will be playing middle to front tees.

Pin positions will be cut around the outside of the green for the two weeks leading into the event to allow NZ Golf five tournament pins for the event.

UPCOMING WORK:

Renovations on greens and tees.

Growing in 12th complex.

Sand in 12th bunker.

Sand and seed Trial green.

Prep and seed Turf Nursery, Ladies 8th tee, area on 12 and 14 rough.

General prep for Carrus and members events.
