FROM THE FRONT OFFICE

A Very Merry Xmas & Happy New Year Everyone,

I trust that you all have a safe and happy festive season with lots of time to play golf! My Xmas plan is to play some golf, so I hope to see you all out on the course.

If you are planning to play on Xmas Day, please be aware that the Pro Shop and Clubhouse will not be open. The locker rooms and Trundler shed will also be locked, so please arrange to collect your clubs etc no later than 7 pm Xmas Eve.

Just a few little tid bits:

  • We now have a plumbed in water cooler. This is located in the Cafe end of the clubhouse. Freshly filtered water available so that you can fill your water bottle and make sure you stay hydrated whilst on course.
  • We have  a Defibrillator. In the case of a medical event, please call the pro shop and ask for the defib to be dispatched. Make sure you take your cellphone with you on cours - just have it on silent :)
  • Medical Kits are located in the Pro Shop, Cafe, Bar and Front Office - thanks Lesleyann Jensen for replenishing the kits.
  • We have a lending library located in the Cafe end of the Clubhouse. Books cane be borrowed for a gold coin donation. Raewyn Varhalamas kindly manages the Library. We would appreciate it is books are returned. Some really good books have gone missing so please return so that others can enjoy. Funds raised from the library are donated to the gardening ladies so they can keep our gardens looking nice
  • Speaking of gardens - if you would be keen to adopt a garden - this would be greatly appreciated. Noeline and Jackie have a huge task managing all of the gardens, so if you would like to volunteer to take ownership of a specific garden, please let me know.
Last but certainly not least -  a HUGE THANKS to everyone who has volunteered around the club this past year. From Board members, Captains, Committees, Gardeners, Window Washers, Staining, Painting, Washing down buildings, On Course tasks and more. Your contributions are noticed and appreciated. Cheers to you all.

I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.

Happy Golfing

ON COURSE
A word from our Course Superintendent - Chris Posa,

GENERAL: Its been a busy yet productive month with the couch conversion project on over the last month. We have also had some warm weather with 246mm of rain which has seen the grass shoot out of the ground. We are currently catching up with tidy up jobs that have been neglected whilst undergoing the 3rd fairway project.

GREENS: Currently in healthy condition. We havent been able to spend much time on the greens due to our time being consumed on other projects', so have focused on turf health. This will continue over the holiday period as with the stat days and irregular weeks, our hours on course are limited.

TEES: Currently in good condition. I have the tees on a regular fungicide, fertilzer and wetting agent programme this season. Its early days yet, but already we are seeing the benefits with the condition of the tees.

FAIRWAYS: We have completed the construction and stolonizing of the 3rd fairway and are currently in the grow in phase. So far, all has gone well and after 2 weeks we have some really good take with the couch which is nice to see. I have fertilzed the fairway twice already and will be doing a weekly fert until we get the cover desired.

We took the time to scarify fairways 8 & 10 as we used the 6th fairway only for stolons for the 3rd fairway. They have come up really well and expect them to be fully recovered come the new year.

The rest of the fairways on course are in excellent condition. I have them on a monthly herbicde programme to combat growth and kikuyu.

ROUGH: The rough is in good condition with the regular rain and optimal temperatures. We are still having to mow it weekly. It would be nice to see it dry off somewhat, but it is looking nice.

BUNKERS: This was an area of neglect over the last month with just getting a rake once a week. We are hoping to have them all tidied up heading into the Xmas & New Year period and will be in them more frequently once we start with the Club opening days.

Merry Xmas from the Greenkeeping Team - Chris, Harry, Barry & Sam

CAFE & BAR XMAS HOURS
The Cafe & Bar will be open every day - except:
  • XMAS DAY
  • BOXING DAY
Opening hours are published but if the fields are very small or bad weather, we may close early. We aim to provide a full service, but we will be running on lower staff numbers so we just ask for patience and consideration. If you don't see anything that you like, please ask the staff, they will be able to make something to order or recommend something.

The team wish you all a very Merry Xmas & Happy New Year. They have really enjoyed being part of the TGC staff again and appreciate the support from the members this year.

NEW RULES OF GOLF

Only a few more weeks and the new rules come into play. Are you ready?

Check out this little video which gives you a good overview. There are plenty of other detailed videos on NZ Golf website and we have a stock of rule books available in the clubhouse.

We have a project team who are currently working on defining the penalty areas and course setup. A big thank you to Lindsay Klee, David Mowat  & Kim Copestake for their expert advice.

The Local Rules Board has been moved and is now on the Pro Shop wall near the trundler shed door. Also note that temporary local rules will now be printed on your scorecard in the same area as the toilet door code.

METLIFECARE 5 COURSE CLASSIC

We will be hosting the Metlifecare 5 Course Classic from Tuesday 22 January - Friday 25 January. We have morning fields every day this year so tee times will be available in the afternoon.
If you would like to enter this event - go to the following page and enter online
https://www.5courseclassic.co.nz/
Members are entitled to a $40 Pro Shop Voucher in acknowledgement of playing on your home course.

SUBSCRIPTION PAYMENT PLANS
Alot of people have been asking me about payment plans for subs.

Just to clarify - we offer a payment plan which allows members to spread their annual subscription over a time payment. Our preference is regular monthly installments with the total amount to be fully paid by 31 January. The payments must be made by automatic payment which you need to arrange with your bank. I will be issuing subscription invoices in late January and this will be explained in more detail then.

Please note, we do not offer a month by month membership and you can't just stop and start when you are away on holiday for extended periods. On a case by case basis, we will consider suspending subscriptions for serious medical events but only upon receipt of a written request (email is fine).

If you have any questions, please contact Michelle in the club office.

YOUR TRAVEL MIXED SERIES
Allow images
A huge thanks to David & Kim Blacke and Grant & Julie Whittaker for running a fantastic Mixed Series this year! Also massive thanks to Kay Rogers for her continued sponsorship of this event and of course the on course tee sponsorship.

The recent Xmas round saw 96 players out on a beautiful sunny Sunday. The clubhouse was full of happy faces and all in all a great day was had. The next round is Sunday 20 January so get your name in quickly. Please remembers that each round is a separate competition,so you don't need to play in every round to be a winner.

Thanks again to YOU Travel and if you are thinking about travel, please support those who support us.
