We have had a frustrating amount of rain since the lifting of lockdown, resulting in re-scheduling and catching up with our programmes. Well done to your committees for your great work “juggling”. We still have a lot of golf to play and fingers crossed our Spring will be much kinder to us.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS (FINALS SUNDAY 18TH OCTOBER)

REMEMBER THAT THE FOLLOWING LOCAL RULE DOES NOT APPLY WHEN PLAYING STROKEPLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS AND MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS!

If your ball goes Out of Bounds or is Lost, you must play your next stroke from where you hit the previous ball that went out of bounds or was lost for a PENALTY OF ONE STROKE. ie You do not have the option of using the Local Rule whereby you can take a drop laterally from where the ball went out of bounds or was lost, for a penalty of two strokes.

The fourth and final round of 18 hole Strokeplay (the first three were played in March before lockdown), will be played this Wednesday 12th.

18 Hole match play championship rounds will commence on 26th and 29th August.

For our 9 Hole ladies, these have commenced and there are already some great contests going on.

RULES COURSE

Well done to those of you, both 9 hole and 18 hole ladies, who have taken up this challenge. A reminder that Adrienne is running a little session after golf on a Wednesday, open to all and commencing around 1.30pm, for any of you who would like to run through the questions together and discuss what answers would be appropriate. The first of these is happening this Wednesday 12th. This is a great way to help get those rules embedded into your “brain”.

9 HOLE LADIES INTERCLUB

While all our Pennants and other District Events were cancelled because of Covid-19, the 9 hole ladies around the Bay are managing to play their annual interclub event. Our Tauranga ladies have been doing pretty well and currently sit fourth in the competition. Good luck with the rest of your matches ladies.

LGU SCORING

Some of you are a little confused with the new LGU Scoring, but it is actually quite simple. The new scoring system is done on a “Net Differential” basis. Examples as follows:

18 HOLE:

Gross Score Your Course Hcp Net Score Course Rating(Tga) Net Differential

96 24 72 71.8 +0.2

92 24 68 71.8 -3.8

9 HOLE:

(Holes 1-9) 51 14 37 35.1 +1.9

(Holes 7-15) 47 12 35 36.5 -1.5

(Holes 12-2) 55 20 35 36.5 -1.5

So, clearly the more times you can get into a -Minus or a low +Plus, you are doing well. I hope this clarifies the new NZ Golf system for LGU for you .

HOUSEKEEPING

CLUB DAYS

Club Days across the board are attracting excellent fields and this is probably due to us not being able to travel overseas. Everyone is staying home and making the most of what our beautiful country has to offer. So, this brings me to the subject of TAKING YOUR NAME OUT OF THE DRAW - Please ladies, if you are unable to play on a day where your name is in the draw, either take your name out online or phone the pro-shop as soon as you know. Particularly on Lady Vets day, but not only that day, we are getting completely full draws and when a player goes online to enter her name in, finds there are no spaces. However, once the day commences, there are always a good number of spaces because players are just not turning up! Please consider your fellow members and take your name out so that those wanting a game know they can get one. Further, if the draw is full and you can’t find a space, please still come to golf by the starting time and we will try to make sure you are slotted in.

PITCH MARKS ON THE GREEN – Make sure you repair your own pitch mark and if you see any others, give them a repair too. We have a beautiful course and we all need to do our bit to keep it that way. (Unfortunately there are those whose heads are in the cloud sometimes and they forget to fix their own.)

TAKEAWAY COFFEE CUPS - The ladies in the kitchen are more than happy for you to bring your own takeaway cups for them to fill for you rather than use club coffee cups/mugs. Saves dishes and when its busy, means they don’t have to continually wash cups/mugs to keep up with the demand. You may even get a little discount. Your small or regular size takeaway cups only please – none of those great buckets you can get obviously.

There is always quite a bit of work going on behind the scenes so these people are mint! Michelle, our Pro-shop team and our Green keeping team, together with those happy faces in the kitchen, also deserve our appreciation for the work they do – so, don’t forget to let them know anytime you feel like it! Last but not least, thankyou to you our members for all your support and for continuing with your membership.

Cheers
