TAURANGA LADIES GOLF NEWSLETTER – JUNE 2020

Well done all! You have patiently coped with all that has been required of you during the past months – congratulations and thankyou. There are more of you coming to club days which is fantastic and many of you are getting your game back together again judging by the scores coming in. (Lucky for some!)

Slow Play

Because our fields have and seem to be, increasing, it is more important than ever to ensure that you avoid slow play. Please at least keep to the times on the card and if you are falling behind, tee off in twos until you have regained your position.

If those in front are in Racehorse mode, let them go, as long as you are not behind the card you are fine. However, if the field is building up behind you please do what you can to move a little faster. Little things to do to keep play moving:-

· Please tee off first and then mark your card

· Move efficiently to your ball but without rushing your shot

· Talk and walk – please don’t stand on the fairway or green having a good old natter

Club Championships

Club champs commence in August and I would like to encourage as many of you as possible to enter. All the games are played on club days and if we achieve good entries, we can run Plate competitions to spread the “love”. As these are the only matchplay events this season, I recommend you get into the spirit and give it a go – anything is possible – you may just go further than you imagined. Of course you do need to be available to play Finals Day on Sunday 18th October.

Wet Weather and Carts

Where we have had a lot of wet weather, it is possible that the course will be closed to carts on your playing day. If you require a cart, check the club website before you go to golf and at the bottom of the page showing all the tee times, there will be a notice regarding carts if these are banned for the day.

Tee Blocks

Two gentlemen club members, Mike Sherratt and Peter Heaney, have kindly made extra seats to be placed around the course. You may have noticed these at #2, #3, #5 and #8. The Men’s committee are to place these permanently and securely to ensure that they don’t “go walkabout”. So appreciated.

Also ladies, just to let you know that the Tee Block at #8 will remain permanently forward of the men’s tee.

New Out of Bounds Areas

New out of bounds areas are shown on the noticeboard outside the pro shop.

(a) Left side of 2nd fairway between the fairway and short course practice area

(b) Line of trees on left between 3rd fairway and turf nursery

(c) The garden and TCC facility at the rear left of the 14th green

Gardens on the Course

The 9 hole ladies have “their” garden by #12 tee looking a picture! Those ladies looking after various gardens around the course are doing a great job too. However, the bulk of the course gardens are still maintained by our two hard working ladies Noelene Dynes and Jackie Reynish. Understandably, they cannot keep this up by themselves so a plan of the course gardens is being put together and we are asking as many of you as possible to put your hands up to assist where you can. If several are assigned a particular (not too big) area, to look after, then the load will be greatly reduced for these amazing ladies. Do let them or myself know if you are able to help in any way at all.

UPCOMING EVENTS TO NOTE

20th July (Monday) : Lady Vets Mid-Winter Xmas Fun day – entries to Raewyn

Varhalamas or Chris Carrington

10th July (Friday) : Barometer Day at Waihi – 2 Silver, 2 Bronze, 2 Vets and 2 x 9 Hole

Let your Captain or Convenor know if you are available. Tauranga

Remember to support our sponsors, particularly in light of the difficult times they will have experienced and in fact some still are.

Look out for the notice of the Club AGM, which is due out soon. A good turnout at our AGM is really heartening and shows our Board and our Committees that we as members do care about the running and the wellbeing of our club. Do come along if you can ??

Again, thank you our valued members, for all your support of the club, your committees, the café, bar and pro shop. You rock!!
