TAURANGA LADIES GOLF NEWSLETTER TO 18 HOLE LADIES, VET LADIES, 9 HOLE LADIES, JUNIOR GIRLS

Greetings Ladies

COVID-19

These are very worrying times for us all and we must do everything in our power to keep safe and healthy. I have nothing but praise for the measures our Board Chairman, Paul Gartner together with Michelle Towersey have put in place so far in order to provide as much protection as possible for Club staff and members. I urge you to support them fully and follow their direction to the letter. Remember this is only a game and should not be surrounded by fear and trepidation.

CLUB COMPETITIONS

From Monday 23rd until further notice and with the backing of my amazing committee, I advise that all competitions will be suspended. For those of you who are in the Ladder Competitions, your entry fee will be carried over to next year as it is extremely unlikely that we will be able to have a viable competition at all this year. The February and March winners of Top Cat will be held over until we are able to recommence as normal.

We are all in this together and there are many ladies who simply do not wish to attend golf for fear of compromising not only their own health but the health of family members at home, especially those with underlying conditions. So, while there will still be a good number of us wanting to go out and play, it is completely unfair to those choosing to stay away to have competitions continue without them.

As long as the pro shop are happy to continue with haggle competitions, we will continue these for those who want to get out and play and competition winners will have their accounts credited as normal. There will be no prize giving after your round.

INTERCLUB AND PENNANT COMPETITIONS, HOMELINKS COMPETITIONS

All interclub and pennant competitions have been cancelled for this season. While there has been no directive as yet, I anticipate that NZ Golf will cancel Homelinks Competitions for this year in due course.

IN CONCLUSION …

Make no mistake, this is a very serious situation we are in – you only need to note that from 8 confirmed cases in New Zealand on Tuesday 17th, there are today (5 days later) 66 and this number will accelerate! I personally know of people out there, tourists and returning New Zealanders alike, who have completely disregarded the 14 day self-isolation directive. They are seriously putting our community at risk and will undoubtedly contribute to the spread of the disease.

I urge you to keep yourselves, your families and friends safe and diligent. By all means get out and play golf, cycle, walk …. whatever you like to do, but observe the rules of distance and hygiene so we can all safely make it to the day when we can all be together again enjoying the game. If you stay at home, practice your putting and chipping or pick up a rule book – you will be magnificent when you return!

Kindest regards and my best wishes to you all.
