The last week of May was a very busy week for us. Getting it all in before the official start of winter!

First the Saturday girls played their final round of Matchplay Pennants at Mt Maunganui on Sunday 26th . They won the day -congratulations, but finished mid-field over the three rounds.

Monday 27th was our Womens 18-hole Open Tournament sponsored by New World Gate Pa. Thanks to my committee for their great effort, & to Noelene for sorting the floral table decorations & her help overall. Nearly half the 70-strong field were visitors from 12 clubs – excellent support. Major winners were – Best Gross – Jill Stewart, Best Nett Silver – Kim Copestake, Best Nett Bronze – Shirley Cross.

Then on Wednesday 29th, Captain's Day was Pink Day. An altered format from previous years meant we had lunch followed by an Ambrose competition held in beautiful conditions. The winners of that were Tony Breeds, Pat Breingan, Leo & Lesleyanne Jensen. However the major winners of the day were Breast Cancer Support Tauranga, to whom we were able to donate $933. Thankyou everyone for your contributions. It isn't too late to donate more - & it would be great to get to the $1000 mark! Thankyou also to Beryl, Bron & Liz Young for your help setting up – mostly lots of 'puff' blowing up balloons! Thanks to the large group of men & 9-hole ladies who participated.

I appreciate the assistance of Karl & Jim over these 2 events, Jim also for his generous sponsorship. Thanks to Michelle for her help, & to the cafe staff who were rather busy those 2 days.

Coming up – on Friday June 6th, mid-week ladies have their final Matchplay Pennants of the year, @ Waihi. Good luck to those involved. In the silver division we are doing quite well., but all will be decided on Friday.

On Monday 24th June, our Women Vets will be holding their popular Mid-winter Christmas Tournament. Entries to Noelene or Raewyn please.

Enjoy your winter golf, & hopefully not too much frost or rain.

Adrienne Coad
