Club’s Strokeplay Championships:-

After many requests, and a positive Clubhouse vote earlier in the year, it was decided to move away from the three round 52 hole format back to the traditional 72 Hole format.  There was also a need to keep away from the Sunday Pennant Fixtures during February and March and the five weeks after the April coring in renovation week. We have, therefore, scheduled the Strokeplay Championships for May: on the following dates:

Round 1.     Saturday 11th May

Round 2/3.  Saturday 18th & Sunday 19th May

Round 4.     Saturday 25th May - seeded round

  • The Allen Ward Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the player who has the two best Nett totals, across the three grades, after the first two rounds of the Strokeplay.
  • The James Mowatt Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the player who has the best three Nett totals, across the three grades, after Round 3 of the Strokeplay.
  • Both the Allen Ward and James Mowatt Trophies are part of the Strokeplay Championships and cannot be entered into as stand alone competitions.

·

·         8. Handicap Pennants – 9 holes of Foursome and then 18 Holes of Singles. Team Manager John Laing

·

·         This is an exciting change that will give even more members the opportunity to represent the Tauranga Golf Club playing on various courses around the Bay in match play competitions.

·          With several of our teams doing so well over the past few years we are now the Club that they all want to try and beat. By entering a team in every division, our Club will be fielding more teams than any other club, which is quite an achievment. Over the next week or so the various managers will be contacting potential players but we are still looking for additional names.

On Sunday 3rd February we will be holding a social get together for those who are already on the list and for those of you who would like to find out more detail before you can commit. We will start the afternoon at 1:30pm with 18 holes of golf, off of a three tee start, followed by a team talk and Q&A session in the Clubhouse.

Stroke And Distance Local Rule

When a player's ball has not been found or is known or virtually certain to be out of bounds, the player may proceed as follows rather than proceeding under stroke and distance.

For two penalty strokes, the player may take relief by dropping the original ball or another ball in this relief area (see Rule 14.3):

Two Estimated Reference Points:

(a). Ball Reference Point: The point where the original ball is estimated to have:

·         Come to rest on the course, or

·         Last crossed the edge of the course boundary to go out of bounds.

(b). Fairway Reference Point: The point of fairway of the hole being played that is nearest to the ball reference point, but is not nearer the hole than the ball reference point.

For purposes of this Local Rule, "fairway" means any area of grass in the general area that is cut to fairway height or less.

We also have diagrams on the local rules board showing the relief options under the new local rule
