2018 PLUMBING WORLD SHOOTOUT: Sunday 25th November

Firstly a big thank you to Jason Ornberg and Plumbing World for sponsoring this exciting end of season competition again. On the day the rain was both heavy and persistent, which presented an even bigger challenge than usual to the 24 finalists.

Richard Craven, off of a handicap of just four, backed himself by way of saving two shots for the last two holes and won through to the 18th along with Ian Humble. They were both in for par and both had saved shots and so it had to be decided by way of a putt-off. ‘Tragic’s’ knee-trembler decider then came into play The first putt was to be just over one metre from the hole and both made the putt; then it was to be from circa two metres and so on until one of them missed. Richard won it with the second putt off.

1st Prize $1,920

2nd $960

3rd/4th $350 each

5th/6th $100 each

Jason has kindly agreed to sponsor the 2019 Plumbingworld Shootout, which will begin again in February; Full details to follow in January Newsletter.

Summer Cup 2018/19

The first round of the Summer Cup was on December 1st with rounds scheduled for December 8th; and then January 5th, 12th with the final on the 19th January. The competition is over the Summer months and will, therefore, likely clash with family holidays. In such cases where you cannot play on the appointed day, please arrange your match before the date of the next round.

“In such cases the players must arrange a day and time suitable to all parties, failing which the Men’s Captain or Vice-captain will stipulate the day and the time when the match must be played or defaulted.”

These matchplay cards will have to be be entered for handicapping purposes but please remember that once your match is completed, you may continue the round BUT the score you return for the remaining holes MUST be at least equal to 2 Stableford points (no ringers or 1 points!).

This is an exciting change that will give even more members the opportunity to represent the Tauranga Golf Club playing on various courses around the Bay in match play competitions.

We now need a list of Players who would like to play in their respective divisions. There are relevant posters displayed around the Club and Locker room inviting you to add your name to the list of potential players which is on the Locker Room notice board. If you are interested, but would like further information, please have a chat with one of the Team Managers or one of the Committee members. The Team managers will begin to pull the teams together in January ready for the new season.

The Saturday Two-Tee Start

Good news! The two tee start is working so well that we will have no need of a one tee start throughout the Summer Months – so it’s goodbye to those slow five hour rounds under a blazing sun!

THE AUSSIE BUTCHER XMAS HAMPER 15TH DECEMBER

· This will be a hidden team format with the best three Stableford scores added to give the hidden team’s score (the 4th score will only be used in the event of a tie).

· As it is subsidised the entry fee will be just $10.

· This event is open to all paid up seven day members of the Club whether you usually play on a Saturday or not. Players can book in as usual and play in their usual fours or groups if they wish – the computer will randomly pick the hidden fours. To the morning players, in particular, who usually have their own morning competition, please remember that if you are also in the Xmas hamper you MUST putt out.

· This event will be sponsored by the Men’s Committee in the sum of $1,000 along with $600 of sponsorship from the Aussie Butcher.

· The Committee are targetting the top nine teams to win Hams to the value of $2,800 and so there is a good chance of a win

Team 2 Four full Hams

Teams 3-9 Half Hams of varing sizes x 4

· Morning players must check the results page on Dot Golf and collect their Hams (your name will be on it) from the Café Chill room on the Saturday or Sunday 16th.
