THE CLUB MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

This is one of the Club’s two most important and prestigious competitions To allow players more flexibility we reverted to the traditional pattern of three qualifying rounds of Gross play with the two best rounds to be the counters for the seeded draw in three divisions.

The Divisional winners in the qualifying rounds were as follows

Seniors: Tony Reynish 143 Runner-up Jim Lancaster 146

Intermediate: Murray Warner 156. Runner-up Brian Benjamin 158

Junior: Wayne Rees 165 Runner-up Arbus De Lapalme, “Eric” 167

The top 16 seeded players in each division were then to play their matches on:

22nd September

6th October

13th October – Semi-final

With the final on Finals day

Players who were beaten in the first round on the 22nd September will now join the Matchplay plate with their first game, off of the stick, on Saturday 6th October these matches have been booked in for you on the Dot Golf System..

Players are reminded that all matches must be played on or prior to the day scheduled unless special exemption is granted in advance by the Men’s Captain or if he is not available the Vice Captain. In such cases the players must arrange a day and time suitable to all parties, failing which the Men’s Captain will stipulate the day and the time when the match must be played or defaulted.

Normally these matchplay cards would have to be be entered for handicapping purposes but this is NOT so for the Club’s Matchplay Championships, However, if you wish to enter the Pro’s haggle for two’s and the Hidden hole then you CAN submit a card but please remember that once your match is completed, you may continue the round BUT the score you return for the remaining holes MUST be at least equal to 2 Stableford points (no ringers or 1 points!).

New Members

We have recently had more than 30 new members join the club and we will now have some of our old and new Summer members on and around the course so firstly if you are a new member then welcome! If you are new to Golf or are not sure how to enter the various Competitions or Pro-shop haggles please feel free to ask any of the staff or fellow members who will be more than pleased to help you settle in. To the existing members you may well be seeing lots of new faces and names around the Club and so please do make them feel welcome and help where needed.

We now need a list of Players who would like to play in their respective divisions. There are relevant posters displayed around the Club and Locker room inviting you to add your name to the list of potential players which is in the Club House under the notice board. If you are interested, but would like further information, please have a chat with one of the Team Managers or one of the Committee members.

JC Golf

If you have not already seen it Jim now has a new state of the art indoor training facility/Golf Simulator, which enables him to give lessons backed up by immediate technical feedback.

JC Golf Day 30th September:

This was a 3 man Ambrose event that attracted 44 teams with 132 players in the field (well in truth 131 for the first hour as someone, who will remain nameless, forgot to adjust his watch for daylight saving).

Jim was able to put together a fantastic prize table worth over $5,800 along with Platters of food, drinks and a BBQ costing the best part of $1,300 which made for a fantastic day. It was great to see the Clubhouse so full too. So thank you Jim, and Michelle who had to run the bar, for a great day and judging by the feedback there is certainly some demand for another Sunday Competition.

Overview of the Rules Modernisation initiative Goals, Changes and Process for Implementation in 2019

The new Rule Books are now in the Clubhouse – please help yourselves to a copy.

Ground under repair

We have been asked to clarify the procedure for taking relief from an area designated as ground under repair either by way of a GUR sign or an area encircled by white paint. (Rule 25-1b) “The player must lift the ball and drop it without penalty within one club-length of and not nearer the hole than the nearest point of relief.

Closing Day & Men’s AGM 17th November

The Closing day competition will be a Four Man Ambrose Competition.

  • Open to both the morning and afternoon fields
  • Book your team in via the Dot golf System or give your team’s names to the Pro-shop. If you do not have a team the Pro-shop will do their best to put you into a four.
  • Each player to have four drives.
  • All four players can hit from tee to green.
  • Once on the green, you can choose to play either hole.
  • To speed up the game, once on the green any ‘near-miss’ putts can be tapped in – no need to mark the ball.
  • The prize table will be sponsored by the Men’s Committee.
  • Posters with details of Competition to be posted in the Locker room.

This format should enable us to have a good turnout for the Men’s AGM and the election of the Men’s Committee which will follow the day’s Prizegiving.
