The Men's Championship team played their game against Omanu over at the Mount Maunganui course. Meanwhile the Men's Senior, Intermediate and Junior teams all played their matches here at Tauranga on Sunday.

Their next games will be held next weekend, Sunday the 25th Feb, so if you have a free weekend, head on out and support or even caddie for some of the players!

Our Championship Pennant team had their 2nd round of pool play on Sunday at Mount Maunganui against Omanu. Omanu have been crowned champions for the last 3 years so we knew we had our work cut out for us..

After last weeks win in Whakatane, the team was in good spirits and pumped to get into it.

One change to the team this week say Danny Gibbs returning to the side after last years solid performance and Trent Munn happily sitting out due to other work commitments.

The focus this week again was to have that fight to win and never give up... These 6 guys showed this once again!

With less than 6 holes to go, we had one match up and one match down in each of the groups, so we knew it was going to get very close and we needed all the fight and support from all to pull this one off.

Michael Rolley (6) was the first to get the win for Tauranga winning his match 3/2.. Michael was 2 down through 2 holes but steady, well played golf helped get his win.. Mitchell Kale (1) was another to shake hands early with a good win 5/4 vs one of his BOP team mates. Unfortunately for Nathan Clark (2), he came up against an old war horse for Omanu who is also a BOP rep and some luck not quite going his way resulted in conceding a point to Omanu.

This had us 2 to 1 with all of the last 3 matches going down the 18th (6th at The Mount). Danny Gibbs (5) played very well and managed a good halve against his opponent who in recent weeks has been playing at #3. This brings us to Jakob Bird (3) and Richard Craven (4) who both went down the 18th last week also.. But this week they both walked off smiling with birdies on the last to secure our team victory 4 ½ vs 1 ½. Richard, well done on the redemption from last year mate.

A well deserved beer for the team and even a nap for one I heard!

Again, a special thanks to the caddies and supporters who made it out.. We had a good range of past members, current members and family there to support.

Bring on the next round!!

Thank you
Ryan Steward
