THE CLUB MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

This is one of the Club’s two most important and prestigious competitions!

To allow players a bit more flexibility we have reverted to the traditional pattern of three qualifying rounds of Gross play with the two best rounds to be the counters for the seeded draw in three divisions.

The three qualifying rounds will be played on

1st September

8th September

15th September

These qualifying rounds will attract T-Scores

The top 16 seeded players in each division will then play their matches on:

22nd September

6th October

13th October – Semi-final

With the final on Finals day

Members are reminded that all matches must be played on or prior to the day scheduled unless special exemption is granted in advance by the Men’s Captain or if he is not available the Vice Captain. In such cases the players must arrange a day and time suitable to all parties, failing which the Men’s Captain will stipulate the day and the time when the match must be played or defaulted.

Normally Matchplay cards would have to be entered for handicapping purposes but this is does NOT apply for the Club’s Matchplay Championships, however, if you wish to enter the Pro’s Haggle for Two’s and the Hidden hole then you CAN submit a card:  but please remember that if your match is won or lost before the 18th, and you want to play out the remaining holes, then you may continue the round BUT the score you return for these remaining holes MUST be at least equal to 2 Stableford points  (no ringers or one point scores).

NEW MEMBERS

We have had another 12 new members join the club so firstly if you are a new member then welcome! If you are new to Golf or are not sure how to enter the various Competitions or Pro-shop haggles please feel free to ask any of the staff or fellow members who will be more than pleased to help you settle in. To the existing members you may well be seeing lots of new faces and names around the Club and so please do make them feel welcome and help where needed.

REPAIRING PITCH MARKS

There has been a marked improvement in the repair of Pitch Marks with many members taking the time to repair both their own and any others that they spot. So a big thank you is due for your efforts in helping to maintain the soft greens during this slow grass growing time of the year.

PENNANTS 2019

There was a comprehensive review of the various BOP Pennant competitions with votes cast for amendments and changes. The results were as follows:

Championship:

To remain as per 2018 with two seeded divisions of 5 teams playing Foursomes and Singles.

Senior:

One Baywide competition with one round of Round Robin before play-offs, playing Foursomes & Singles.

Intermediate & Junior:

Clubs will be invited to enter the Blue or Gold Competition or, if there is enough interest, a team in both the Blue and Gold Competitions.

Intermediate & Junior Blue will play Foursomes & Singles.

Intermediate & Junior Gold will play 18 holes singles with a 4 Ball Better Ball included.

Clubs will also be invited to enter a Presidents Grade – Minimum Handicap 21.5 playing singles and 4 Ball Better included as per Junior Gold.

This is an exciting change that will give even more members the opportunity to represent the Tauranga Golf Club playing on various courses around the Bay in match play competitions.

The Club now needs to meet the Bay Of Plenty entry deadline of the 31st August 2018 for the 2019 Pennants Season.

To this end we need a pool of potential Team Managers and, of Course, a list of Players who would like to play in their respective divisions. You will shortly see posters displayed around the Club and Locker room inviting you to add your name to the list of potential players. If you are interested but would like further information before you can commit please have a chat with one of the Committee members or the Pro-shop staff.

If you have not already seen it, Jim now has a fantastic indoor training facility where he is able to give lessons backed up by immediate technical feedback – it is well worth taking a look!

WINTER RULES

Please take a look at the Club’s Notice board for local Rules; where you will find details relating to Rule 25-2 “Embedded Ball Through The Green”

HANDICAP PENNANTS

The final was played at Te Puke on Sunday 29th July and the team had another impressive win against a very strong Ohope Team. John Laing will now lead the team into the Baywide final against Taupo on this coming Sunday 5th August at Lake View Golf Club. Tauranga won the overall event and the Laing Cup last year – we wish them the best for back to back victories!
