Mens Committee News Letter – January 2018

The Men’s Committee would like to wish all members a happy new year. Turning to business, we are now just a month away from the new season, which opens on the 10th February.. In the background your Committee have been busy arranging the programme for the coming year. One of our key objectives for this year is to try and recapture some of the old club spirit by way of making the club more active on Saturdays. JC Golf will still run their haggles but the Committee will also be awarding vouchers for the Men’s Club Day.. We also intend to do something for the lower handicapers who often struggle to feature in the Pro’s haggle.

Opening Day Competition 10th February

We will run a Irons/Hybrid only Texas Scramble (same as an Ambrose except that all four players hit from tee to green) Minimum four ‘drives’ per player.

Here we will be trying to award around half of the field a meat pack prize: To this end the top 12 teams will all get a meatpack for each player, with the size of the meat pack depending on finishing position.

We will also run the usual and popular chipping and putting clubhouse competition. – Poster to follow.

Ryder Cup – March 2018

Being Ryder Cup year the Kiwis have challenged the more ‘recent arrivals’ to a Ryder Cup type competition. Fridge will be the Kiwi manager and Klaus will pick a team from the rest of the world. If you are interested in playing please let your relevant captain know.

Potential Friday Afternoon Competition

We are working towards arranging a regular ‘last Friday in the month’ afternoon competition. This hopefully, will be open to both men and women and will have a themed prize table e.g.Mills Reef Wine. It will be aimed at 18 hole members. If approved it will start on Friday 23rd February.

Summer Cup

Well done to the Semi-finalists:- Rick Harding, Eric the Frenchman, Andy Kirk and Gary Mclauchlan will all do battle this Saturday with the Final being on 20th January – Good luck to them all.

SHOOTOUT 2018

The Committee will keep the entry fee the same as last year $30. The first round will be on Thursday 15th February and the Saturday Shootout will begin on the 17th. – poster to follow

Bradmore Nicol and Bathgate Cups

This is now an Eclectic competition with the two rounds being played on 24th February and the 3rd March. Over the two rounds the computer will pick your best score per hole and come up with a net score. There will be 3 divisions with the above mentioned Cups awarded in their respective order. You can still enter the JC Golf haggle. There is no entry fee for the Competition and the men’s Committee will award a $30 voucher to each divisional winner and $15 to the runners up.

Men’s Monthly Medal

This year’s first monthly medal will be on 17th February (same day as Shootout starts) Placemakers are no longer sponsoring this event and so, for now, the Men’s Committee will take this over.

To encourage the Low handicappers we will award $30 to the best Gross score.

We will also, in three divisions, award $30 to the divisional winners and $20 for the runners up.

Lion Brewery $50 Prezzie Cards

Lion Brewery wish to reward those of us who have put so much effort into supporting our Bar. As a reward for this achievement they have given us 12 x $50 prezzie cards. The Committee have decided upon the following monthly competition. On the Saturday Men’s Golf day all you need to do to enter the Draw is place your score card in a box to be placed next to the scanner. When all of the day’s cards have been scanned one of the Men’s Committee will draw out 4 cards. These cards will be retained. This will be done every Saturday until and including the last Saturday in the month. All of the months drawn cards will then be placed in a back bag and a Committee member will draw out the lucky winning card, HOWEVER, that person MUST be in the club house to win. If needed the Committee member will keep on drawing cards until we have a club house winner.

Pennants

We are rapidly approaching the new Pennants season and the Team Managers are as follows:-

Champs – Chris Posa

Seniors – Matt Wooton

Intermediate – Tony Breeds

Junior – Wayne Carter

To represent your Club in a Pennants team should be viewed as a great honour and for the players it is also an opportunity to test yourself against players, from other clubs, in a very competitive format. All of the managers are looking for committed players and so if you would like to be considered for a team please add your name to the relevant list in the Men’s locker room. If you need background information as to what is involved please ask one of the team managers or members of the Men’s Committee.
