The Intermediate Quarter Finals were held at the Whakatane Golf
Course on Sunday 6th May with Tauranga up against Te Puke.
The Foursome pairing of Lindsay Klee and Stu McFadyen were
beaten in their match on the 18th Green, with the Te Puke player
holing a 30 foot putt from off the green.
James March and Dave Cooper were always in control of their
match winning 3 and 2.Simon Dawson and John Kearney made a great
comeback, halving their match on the 18th after being 4 down with 6
to play.
So after the morning round, honours were shared at 1 ½ games
each, which meant we needed to win at least 3 ½ singles games to
win the day.Lindsay Klee's match only went 9 holes, as after being
6 up, his opponent pulled out after not feeling well.
Stu McFadyen got 4 holes up early on and was never headed off,
winning 3 and 2.James March looked like he had a win in the bag
playing the 18th until his opponent holed his bunker shot for
birdie to snaffle a half.
Dave Cooper was also unlucky to lose on the 18th.Simon Dawson
won his match fairly comfortably with a 3 and 2 victory, while John
Kearney continued his come back form to half his match on the 18th
after being 2 down with 3 to play.
So a 5 ½ to 3 ½ win to Tauranga, they progress to the Semi
Finals where they will face Omanu back at Whakatane Golf Club next
Sunday to play for the Zone Pennant.
