Intermediate Pennants vs Whakatane @ Te Teko on 18th March. Whakatane had made 4 changes to their team that played the 1st week and the changes almost worked to upset our Tauranga team.

Tauranga managed to clinch the Foursomes in the morning, 2 games to 1 with William Coxhead and John Kearney dominating their match and the other 2 matches going down to the wire. The singles were just as tight, the Whakatane Team playing well in all matches. The last match on the course was the decider.

Mike Sherratt was up against a young Ricky Fowler (must have been 12yrs old if that) and Mike was 1 down with 2 to play. Mike won the 2nd to last hole to take the match down the last, a 132m par 3 with Out of Bounds all down the left and into a stiff breeze. Mike, (probably hitting driver) hit his shot directly at the pin and onto the middle of the green. His opposition hit short and chipped to about 5 feet, Mike putted to about 3 feet away, the young fella, missed his putt for par, but Mike stepped up and slotted his putt home for the win.

So in the end, a hard fought 5/4 win to the Tauranga Intermediates to take their 2012 campaign to 2 wins from 2.

Next match is against Ohope and Te Puke this Sunday.
