Saturday 9 Hole Ladies Golf
Saturday 9 hole ladies golf continued to thrive in 2011 with a
large group of eager players enjoying the challenges and rewards
which golf brings to one's life.
Over the year we averaged 17 players on the course on a Saturday
morning, with our best turnout a staggering 24 players!
While eligible for many of the Tuesday 9 hole competitions we also
ran a number of alternative "challenges", providing a variety of
competitions throughout the year. Special note has been the
introduction of the Hazel Casey Trophy awarded to the player with
the most stableford points on the last Saturday of each
month.
Hazel's continued support and interest in our group is appreciated
by us all -Hazel is out on the course with us most weeks, sharing
her love of golf and encouraging us to greater heights.
Hazel epitomises all of the values which draw us to golf;
camaraderie, fun and laughter, exercise and a love of this
wonderful game and the social gathering at the end of each round
and we do enjoy her company.
We ran our first ever "Shoot-out" at the end of the year - the
qualifiers were the ten players who had the best top-ten stableford
total over the year.
The winner was Gail van der Merwe, who beat Julie Eagle on the
final hole, with Anne Gamman finishing third. A lot of fun and, for
many, the first taste of the pressures of serious competition
golf.
Our thanks go to Alison Holdem for her invaluable assistance with
this competition and also to Gail Dumbleton for her help on the
day.
At the end of the year we organised a Christmas Hamper day -
another first for our group - followed by a luncheon to celebrate
another enjoyable year's golf.
2012 promises to be just as much fun and we are working to find a
variety of ways to keep our Saturday golf interesting and
rewarding.
In keeping with a number of other sporting codes we have plans to
incorporate a "Power Play" option as a creative alternative on 2 or
3 Saturdays this year!
Our thanks to Realty Group (Eves and Bayleys) for their support
throughout the year and also to Pak 'n Save Tauranga for their
contribution to our hamper day.
Also to the Golf Fusion team who are always friendly and
helpful(and check that we have our priorities sorted with the beds
made and the potatoes peeled before we tee off - no prizes for
guessing who that comes from, thanks Jack!)
and everyone else who has assisted us during the year. We are
privileged and appreciative that we are able to enjoy the benefits
of the Tauranga Golf Cub and our beautiful course.
At the end of the year we organised a Christmas Hamper day -
another first for our group - everyone received a prize and our
thanks go to Anne Urquhart for her work to provide such a lovely
array of beautiful goodies. Hamper prize giving was followed by a
luncheon to celebrate another enjoyable year's golf.
