The second to last round of the Senior A competition took place
at the Sunny if not chilly Rotorua golf club, with a 30 minute
frost delay the boys got off to an equally delayed start in the
morning foursomes with Tauranga only managing to record a single
point… again! With the combination of Pudney and Cannon the only
paring to win with a comfortable victory over some interesting
opposition.
The mood at lunch was that we had perhaps taken the Springfield
side a little too lightly and needed a big effort in the afternoon
to put us in a more comfortable position come the final round. This
seemed to work for the team with only a single blemish on the
scorecard in the afternoon with Pudney getting a wee lesson in the
afternoon.
There was some hot scoring in the afternoon matches with James
Cannon dealing to his opponent 4/3 finishing 3 under par, likewise
Andy Wilson won by the same margin finishing 4 under par. Wins also
came to Jack Tisch and Oliver Coxhead, with Jason Ornberg battling
for a half.
Another stellar effort from the team in the afternoon resulting
in a 5 ½ to 3 ½ win, placing us in a comfortable position to take
second place and a spot in the final (provided no major slip ups
against the Mount at Kawerau on Sunday). However a turnaround
in morning results need to happen if we want to be competitive
against the competition top dogs Kawearu comes finals time.
