2011 Junior Interprovincial was held at Cambridge Golf Club from
the 10th to the 14th October. 6 provinces from over New
Zealand
competed in a round-robin matchplay format to find the top
under 19 province in the country.
Bay of Plenty named a strong 6-man team who included William
Howard (Rotorua) Ben Shanly (Tauranga) Cameron Neal
(Otumoetai) David Feeney (Tauranga) Howard Maxwell (Opotiki)
Jin Myeon Hwang (Tauranga) Bailey Smith (Mt Maunganui) and
Harry Middleton (Omokoroa).
After a close first round loss to Auckland, the boy's came
out firing to beat Eastland, Hawkes Bay, Northland, North
Harbour, and Manawatu/Wanganui. Another tight loss to Waikato
meant they still had a chance of winning if Waikato had an
upset loss. But Waikato pipped the team in the final day with
a tight win over North Harbour, with Bay of Plenty finishing
in a very impressive second place.
Well done to the boy's from the Tauranga Golf Club
who represented the province with such passion.
A special mention also to Jin Myeon Hwang from Tauranga who
finished the tournament unbeaten.
